I have at the moment FH 6.27 on my Desktop WIN 10 computer and FH6.27 on my Laptop Win 10 computer.
The latter is used when I am out. I have found that any projects I have on the Desktop which I want to update to the laptop I transfer a Gedcom file to the Laptop with a similar name. This is not the best way I know but certainly the easy proven quick way for me rather then One drive etc etc.
If I buy FH7 can I update the Desktop OK and leave the Laptop version on old 6.27. This keeps the licences ok on 2 computers. Then I can still use the Desktop and still use Export Gedcom file to the 6.27 ? This is still only a Gedcom
If I dislike the new version then I can go back to 6.27 with my original key on my Desktop.
The query is also that this method to work for Calico is to purchase a full non upgrade version ??
Thanks
* FH7 one computer 6.27 other.

Re: FH7 one computer 6.27 other.
You don't need to buy FH V7 initially, just try the 30-day free trial, but that does not run Standard Plugins like Export Gedcom File. (I'm not sure about the other types of Plugin).
Once you buy FH V7 for your desktop then the Export Gedcom File plugin will allow GEDCOM & Media to be transferred from desktop to laptop, but some of the new features will be changed, so you cannot perform the reverse process from laptop to desktop and get back what you started with.

Re: FH7 one computer 6.27 other.
Surely what i need to understand is :-
(a) If I buy a FH7 full price Can I at start by only putting on my Desktop not on Laptop leaving this as 6.27
Then can I do a Export gedcom to my 6.27 version on my laptop (from version 7 on Desktop) ...will this work ?
This way I can still retain my licence for 2 with 6.27 (now only 1 installed and used but retaining one 6.27 to put back again (by deleting) version 7 if I do not like it on my Desktop.
(b) By only buying discount versionV7 for Desktop and only using the one on Desktop (later to instal on Laptop after after deleting 6.27
My main concern is can I carry on licence wise of having the best of 2 worlds with have one desktop on V7 (only one licence used here) and using 6.27 on Laptop and using data transfers by export back and forwards? and if I want to reverting 2 computers back to 6.27 ?
I only want to be viable legally for licences but able to use both computers 1 on 7 and keep 1 on 6.27 with ability to use plugins and data transfers between
Money is not the object here.
Ie can I keep a full version 2 licences for 2 computers by buying V7 and separately retaining my licence I have paid for on version 6.27 (the equivalent of 4 computers 2 of each)

Re: FH7 one computer 6.27 other.
- Yes, you can install FH v7.0 on the desktop and leave FH v6.2 on the laptop, i.e. 2 licences for 4 PC.
Yes, you can export a GEDCOM from FH v7.0 and import to FH v6.2 with some caveats...
The File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File... command has Destination: Family Historian 6 or earlier option.
However, that does not make the GEDCOM 100% FH v6.2 compatible and some fields do not transfer correctly.
The Tools > Plugins > Export Gedcom File plugin does a better job but new records & fields unique to FH v7.0 cannot be retained unaltered in FH v6.2 so there is some information loss.
If you then export the GEDCOM from FH v6.2 and import it to FH v7.0 you will not get back what you started with.
It is similar to FH v5 and FH v6 that introduced Place records. You can export a GEDCOM from FH v6 but the Place records are discarded when imported to FH v5. A GEDCOM exported from FH v5 and imported to FH v6 will recreate blank Place records without any Latitude/Longitude, Note, linked Media, or Standardised field, so some data may be lost. - Yes, you can do exactly the same with a discounted FH v7.0, i.e. 1 licence for 2 PC.
Everything else is the same as above.
You cannot round-trip a GEDCOM from FH v7.0 to FH v6.2 to FH v7.0 without losing information.
i.e. NO, you cannot transfer GEDCOM back and forth and retain all the information related to new FH v7 features.
At a later date, you can revert the desktop to FH v6.2 or update the laptop to FH v7.0.
