Version 7 on lap top

Post by E Wilcock » 10 Dec 2020 11:04

Please could someone spell out how to download V7 to my lap top without filling in a credit card number.

I see that if I open a Project in fh7, it cant revert to fh6.

I am going to contact Calico Pie about this.
I am 81 years old ad I have lost a day and a half of my working life failing to set up fh7.
It is a good thing we are locked down as fh7 means I couldnt work in the archives even if it were allowed.

Are you hoping to install a Free Trial, Evelyn?

See https://www.family-historian.co.uk/down ... -day-trial but read https://www.family-historian.co.uk/dow ... the-trial carefully first.

Thank you for answering, No. I bought the new programme and paid for it already. I did try the free sample because I tried everything, including putting the file onto a hard drive to copy it to the other computer.
It could be that I failed because one has to type in the credit card number a second time but I didnt want to do that.
My account has been confusing for years as the user name is my husband because it is his card.
And it is a nuisance to calico pie too as I must be now have more than 10 old emails providing my details for each version after the other. They are very good at that!
And as we are locked in with Covid in London, I dont need it on the other computer just wanted to get the whole muddle sorted out.

So you have a downloaded version on one PC but not the other.

See Install Family Historian 7. Does that help -- there's a big Download button part of the way down.

(Edit: sorry, my post crossed with yours)

Evelyn, I believe (from posts yesteday) you already have V7 on your main PC. So you already have the download file. If you didn't keep it, go back to the email you received and follow the link to download it again. If you can get the email on the laptop you can get the download straight to the laptop. Otherwise copy it to the laptop via a USB stick. Then run the installation file on the laptop just as you did on the first computer.

Your account lets you install it on two computers so you won't have to pay again, but I think you have to sign into your FH account again.

I did that. i.e. copied it across using a hard drive. But I get an error message that something needed is missing?

fh 7 is paid for and installed on my main computer.
Not on the lap top. (Obviously I dont use both at the same time. )

It is these repeated failures both to download to the lap top from Calico Pie and to run it from the copied file that has taken so much time.

Can you post the exact error message, Evelyn - 'Something is missing' is a bit hard to diagnose!

Also, are you saying the Download I pointed you to doesn't work on the laptop?

Is it asking for your Acitvation Code? That's the long code made up of letters and numbers which was included towards the end of the email you received originally. Or is it asking you to sign into your FH account? What exactly does the message say?

Lorna, Thank you so much. For taking care of me.
I can now tell you that Calico Pie, as always came to the rescue, very kindly sent me an email link and the fh7 programme downloaded and installed on the other computer.
Of course I feel ashamed that I get so worried and need help but now it is all over for another few years at least. It is a good thing I am wedded to using fh. And its named lists and queries!
