FH7 License and can it be uninstalled and re-activated

I need to remove FH7 and spend some time resolving problems with my FH6 Gedcom. If I do that, when I do reinstall am I going to hit problems re-licensing?

All my Genealogical data is on a separate HDD (i.e. not the defaults that the program expects). I have about 1,500 entries in the FH6 Gedcom but only 41 after FH7 converted it. So I plan to spend Xmas finding out what is wrong using FH6. I have a backup of yesterday's data.

At this stage all I want to know is whether there are any steps I need to take to avoid losing the license to FH7

Thank you

Peter Williams

If the activation process is the same as in the beta test, you can reinstall without limit on the same PC, as its hardware signature is registered with Calico Pie. You can also transfer the license to another PC, say after upgrading, but NOT back to the first PC again.

Remember that having installed FH V7 it will have updated the global customisation and preference settings in C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ and the Windows Registry.

I'm not sure what happens to those settings if you revert to FH V6.

The Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin could have saved your original FH V6 settings and restore them after you revert to FH V6. Did you use that plugin?

Thank you both, and the tip about the Registry was very timely, I would have missed that.
