Add Person To Diag
Hi All,
I'm having a bit of a brain drain as I know (hope) there must be a simple answer to this question, but having searched the forum and tried various things I'm still no further forward. I am trying to get a tree chart ready for printing and mounting and am using myself as the Root of an Ancestor diagram. However, I also want to include both of my daughters.....I know I can include 1 by making them the Root, but how do I include both?
Thanks for any pointers you might be able to provide.
Fred

Re: Add Person To Diag
Strange as it may seem, your daughters are descendants so try an Ancestor and Descendant diagram with you as Root.
That will not only include your daughters but also your wife and your siblings.
You may need to adjust some Diagram > Options > General tab settings.
Set Generations Down: to 2 to limit the number of descendant generations.
Untick Auto-display root's siblings' branches to hide your siblings' descendants.

Perfect...thanks Mike.....I knew it would be oh so simple
While I'm on a roll....I'd also like to change the font/font size of the dates shown in my diag (I'm using the basic 'Name/Dates' Scheme from the diag options). I've changed the font of the names OK, but I'm struggling to find how I can do anything with the date font (size/type).

Re: Add Person To Diag
Presumably, in the Edit Text Scheme dialogue you used Initial Font at the top to << Select a new font for the Name item.
In the Used Items list on the right below, there is a <font = ... > item.
Select that and click Edit below so that you can << Select a different subsequent font.
I notice that <font = ... > item is followed by several other items including Name (a.k.a.) and Life Dates.
If you want the Initial Font to also apply to Name (a.k.a.) and the adjusted <font = ... > item to only appply to Life Dates then use the Move Down black arrow below to move the <font = ... > item down between Name (a.k.a.) and Life Dates.

Re: Add Person To Diag
Hi Mike / anyone,
Cool, got it thanks. OK, so my last stupid question is...how on earth do I amend the colour of a spouse in a diag' - currently all my spouses are coming out in a bright red font and I'd like to amend this to something more subtle?
I've reread my 'Getting the most from FH' book and tried googling and searching the forum but have been unable to find a solution so far.
Thnx,
Fred
P.S. I'm hoping that the new version 7 might have more intuitive editing functions as this all feels a bit too difficult.....unless you know how

To change the font colour in Spouse boxes use Diagram>Options>Boxes tab.
Select the Box Type condition, then the Spouse box type, click Edit Features and Text Colour, then click the coloured block to open the colour palette. Remember to tick Save as Default.

Thanks for the response and instructions, which I have followed without success. I have attached a screenshot so that you can see I have it set up correctly (I think). I OK'd the selections and hit 'Apply' but as you can see the spouse font has not changed colour - I'm only using bright pink as a clear example
What am I doing wrong? Thanks,
Fred

That text option only applies to the Descendant boxes of the tree.
To change the text colour for Female Ancestor boxes use the Sex Female condition Text Colour feature.

Re: Add Person To Diag
Yes, it sounds as if what you are actually asking is to change the colour of the text in Female boxes, not in Spouse boxes. In terms of an FH diagram a 'Spouse' is anyone who marries into the family, but who is not a direct ancestor of the diagram root. So the ‘spouses’ in question are spouses of Descendants and (in the All Relatives tree only) non-ancestral spouses of Ancestors.
Remember spouses can be male as well as female!
If you want to change the text colour for all females, use these settings:

Re: Add Person To Diag
Finally got around to trying that and it worked perfectly and so thanks heaps for all the help. One last question....having now produced and formatted my ancestors and descendants Chart, I need to add in one outlier. It's my Dads second wife and obviously as she isn't part of the direct line she doesn't feature in the std Chart.....so is their a simple way of adding just her as an exception?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: Add Person To Diag
Try an All Relatives Diagram and that should include your dad's 2nd wife.
It will also include other non-direct ancestor relatives, but if you don't want them then use the Expansion Buttons and Hide options to exclude them.
Alternatively, you could use Diagram > Insert into Diagram > Descendant Tree... for your dad with 1 Generation.
However, it will be tricky to embed it so just the 2nd wife 'appears' next to your dad.
You will also have to remove the coloured ribbons.

Perfect thanks....I had thought there might have been a 'magic button' method, as opposed to having to edit the All Relatives diag, but the method you suggested certainly worked
