Using matches to web data
Apologies if these are dumb questions, I dip in and out of using FH that and that an aging brain......
I have had to rebuild my PC and now when I click on the 'match' icon of an individual it takes me to the login page of 'Find My Past', where as I am sure it used to go the relevant record, automatically logging me into my account.
Am I mistaken or do I need to alter a setting?
Is it possible to always open the web source in a browser window instead of a FH window?
Thanks

Re: Using matches to web data
Use Tools > Preferences > Internet Data Matches and set the Location to Display Matches to External Web Browser.
If you have set up your browser to remember your login details you should find it all works in the way you remember.

Re: Using matches to web data
Must admit - the last couple of weeks I am being constantly asked to login to FMP when looking at hints in FMP despite having the "remember me" option turned on!. Using the same external browser (Chromium Edge) and not clearing cookies, so starting to get a bit fed up with it.

Re: Using matches to web data
Even with 'remember me' there will be a time limit for how long the login lasts, as has been discussed before.
BTW: Peter, when you rebuilt your PC, how did you recover all your custom settings?
Have you used the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin?

Agreed Mike - my experience has normally seen that at around 2 weeks, but I'm talking two days now!. Have been checking if the browser has somehow switched "on" cookie clearing on shutdown but not finding anything like that so far (viz. switches all set to "don't" )

It is possible FMP have changed the time limit in the cookie.

Re: Using matches to web data
I tend to work slightly differently to jbtapscott, and don’t have any problems staying logged in to FMP for a couple of days at least, although I do tend to logout after each session.
When I start a genealogy session, I start FH, then login to FMP at the same time in my browser. Then when I click on FH hints, they appear in my browser (on a new tab) and have always found them clickable, and am never prompted to login.

Re: Using matches to web data
Thanks one and all for all your posts, it is working seamlessly again!
Mike: Thanks you made the same suggestion when I asked for guidance on the rebuild, so I did it then, a very useful plugin.
Slightly off topic, and about plugins. Is there a plugin for Ancestral Sources? I have seen reference to one but couldn't find it in the listings. And, am I right that data entered in AS is for individuals already in FH, or can it be used for possibles ?

AS isn't a plugin but is a separate program. It is free and you can get it from https://store.family-historian.co.uk/pr ... l-sources/

Re: Using matches to web data
Just to be clear there are two components.
- Ancestral Sources companion installed Windows application ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources
- Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin from the FH Plugin Store that invokes the application with useful presets.

Yes Mike I thought that was the case. I have AS but I can't find the plugin to add to my collection!

Re: Using matches to web data
Are you saying you don't know how to find the FH Plugin Store?
In FH use Tools > Plugins where your installed plugins are listed and click the Plugin Store... button.
In the Plugin Store, click Most Downloaded Plugins top right and Ancestral Sources Data Entry is top of the list.
Click on that listing and Download Plugin.

Re: Using matches to web data
I have used that method many times before but for some reason this time I was trying to find a 'download' action from this page??
https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?i ... data_entry
And of course not finding it, it's just plugin description.
Sorry if I have wasted your time
