On line video as media exhibit?

Post by E Wilcock » 19 Aug 2020 10:24

There are various musicians in my family - classical and pop.
Where there is a surviving video of them, sometimes only on line, I have wanted to add it (as a file or a web link) to their media tab.

But how does one do this? One can only drag and drop still images there?

If you have the media locally then you can add it using Add Media. Personally I always download video from the web if it is important to me, but if you don't want to do this, you could always add a "graphic" for the media record and put the url in the media note. It won't be a live link in V6, but it would be easy enough to copy and paste to a browser window

Adding a downloaded video file as Media item is best but the Add Media URL Shortcut plugin will add a direct link to the online URL that can be invoked by clicking the triangular Open in Editor/Player button in the Media tab dialogue.

Do you need any advice on how to download and add video media, especially from YouTube which is a challenge?

I wanted to download it but the nearest I could do was to paste the images and link into a word document.

I dont have the plug in Mike but will look for it, thanks.

Evelyn, could you post the URL of the video(s) and then we can give very specific advice for downloading.

Click on the blue link to the Add Media URL Shortcut plugin and it takes you to the Plugin Store download.

I down loaded the plug in Mike but probably messed up the rest. I need to leave it now till tomorrow when I am fresh. Plus I am about to go to an on line academic lecture.

Evelyn,

Did you resolve this problem with getting video copies of your family? I am also a musician and studied in London. If you still need help, let me know. I can probably easily get your videos for you. I've been doing Internet video social media since the early 90's. I actually also have a custom setup to show video in a FH website, but it's a little too complex for easy use. I've mentioned it before on the forum.

In any case, if you have it working, it would be nice to see the music part. Perhaps you can post a link to an music example.
