I have not added pictures to my project for some time but prompted by the VJ Anniversary I decided I needed to do an update. I took a photograph with my phone and emailed it to myself [no scanner]. I then managed to get the photo into the media file belonging to the project. It is there with all the other photos I have entered in the past. All those photos have green boxes with ticks.
I tried to add the photo to the chosen person but itappeared upside down ! I have played around and tried to sort out what I must have done but without success. I think in trying I had then got more than one copy of the photo and so deleted some in the hope that would sort the problem. I have even deleted it all and tried to start again but still the picture remains upside down. The new picture is correct in the media file but has a blue box with double arrows against it. I do not remember these symbols from before - perhaps they are new in version 6.
Any suggestions ?

I suspect the problem is caused by you holding the phone upside down or perhaps horizontally with its top slightly lower than the base when you took the picture, i.e. the phone camera thinks the photo should be upside down, in the same way that it auto-rotates the screen image when you turn the phone around. In other words, it knows which way is up & down.
So next time take care about how you hold the phone when taking pictures.

Anyway, there is what is called EXIF data in the JPG file that determines its orientation, and some applications honour that EXIF data and some don't which includes FH.

I don't recognise what you mean by "blue box with double arrows". Perhaps a screenshot would help.

Thank you for replying.
I must admit that I was somewhat taken aback when you suggested I had my phone upside down !! But that was absolutely right. After looking at links etc etc It appears that when using an iphone to take pictures it should be turned so that the volume buttons point down and the control button is on RhS. I had no idea about this.
Anyway problem resolved it works fine now and I have spent the morning updating one of my projects with new photographs.
