Janes Backup disallowed

Post by jsphillips » 04 Jul 2020 10:21

Hi
After reading recent discussions on Backups I tried to setup a topic concerning Janes version. It kept referring me to past discussions none of which was relevant.
I employ a guru who has setup various items in my registry to prevent any intrusions that are not covered by Free Antispyware , Malware bytes, and AVG all of which I use.
I first went into Michaels Backup which with warnings frightened me.
So decided on Janes version.. I set up a new folder in Documents called FH settings Backup. I then proceeded to run Janes Plug in. It warned me that fh.exe was being altered and so did I wish to continue ..a little worried I came out and tried again. This time it now says any changes to anything in the registry denied ???
Can I set up this offline on a memory stick and does a change to rgistry happen...very confused
Thanks

Can you please be specific about which Plugins you are running by using their actual names.

I guess by "Janes version" you mean Backup Family Historian Settings which is over 8 years old.
It was written in the early days of FH V5, does not backup all the FH V6 settings, and has no Restore option.
When I ran it just now, my Avast antivirus also complained but not sure why.
It does not touch the Windows Registry so cannot explain why you get that message.

I guess by "Michaels Backup" you mean my Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings.
(Only my mother called me Michael, especially when I was naughty.)
I am glad the warnings made you think, and did you read them?
The warning is essentially aimed at the RESTORE operation, and to ask me for advice in the Forums (which you are doing).

My Plugin has been used by hundreds of users successfully, and by default does not affect the Windows Registry as stated in its red initial warning.
Both mine and Jane's Plugin allow you to backup to whatever location you prefer.
By default, my Plugin uses your FH Tools > Preferences > Backup > Default Backup Folder setting.
But on the Plugin's Options tab you can Choose Backup Folder.
