Hi
When compiling a ‘Book’ within Family Historian which contains an Ancestors by Generation Report, I thought it would be a good idea to include the Census series code information such as HO 107/1012/12 which would appear at the end of the report (when linked by relevant citations) along with an image of the Source and other pertinent information. It seemed to me that a logical place to record this code was within the ‘Short Title’ field associated with information relating to the Source Record as I already had a longer description in the main ‘Title’ field. So far, so good and the Narrative Report appears OK with associated citations and the Source Records appearing with appropriate text etc appended at the end of the narrative text.
However, when reviewing my Source Records via the Sources tab (View>Record List>Sources) I discovered that any such Records that had an entry within the ‘Short Title’ had this information appearing within the initial Source Record column which had previously displayed the main Source Record ‘Title’ text. After realising this and scratching my head for a period of time, the only way to get this now apparently ‘hidden’ main Title text to appear for these Source Records was to ‘click on the columns then chose Configure Columns and then add ‘Title’ and also ‘Short Title’ columns. After this, I can now see the main description of the source record ‘Title’ within one column with the short ‘Title’ description immediately to the right hand side in the next column and then for me to in effect ignore the first (non-configurable?) column which now has a mixture of ‘Title’ and ‘Short Title’ entries. Whilst not a deal breaker it just seems odd that FH substitutes the ‘Short Title’ for the longer form ‘Title’ in the first column which I believe I cannot hide unless I have missed something……
Please see snipped image below as to how I have configured the columns to date and many thanks in advance for any such corrections and enlightenment if it can be shown how to either hide the first ‘Source Record’ column or move it further to the right so it is not so confusing …at least for me!
I have a further question relating to Narrative Reports but will post this later as a separate query.
Regards to all
Shiriki

Re: Source Record Table
That looks like the Record List window, you would get on better if you configure a Query, as a query is capable of generating a report, you also have the options to hide columns.

Re: Source Record Table
See Tools > Preferences > Records Window and untick Use Short Title for Source record names if available.
Then it will always show the long Title and if you wish you can put Short Title in a column.
That is exactly the customisation that you have overlooked.
