I am trying to make a list with all persons having middle name and surname "yde" but i cant find the "expresion" that tells me how they are related to me (1th cousin et cet).

Is it not possible or is it just me unable to find it?

Hi. Is there a way to have this included in narrative reports please? So each person's description would include something like "grandfather of..." or "second cousin once removed of..." Thanks.

The answer is probably yes, but the details need to be clarified.

Who do you want the relationship to refer to?
i.e. The Project File Root or the Narrative Report Starting Person?

Where in Narrative reports would you want that to appear?
e.g. In the ' was born ' sentence somewhere or after that sentence?

How would you want it worded?
e.g. .... great grandson of John Smith, ...

I am very new to this , so I would appreciate very gentle treatment please.

I am using the witness function which is great but in the narrative I want to explain the relationship of the witness to the principal.

Because of the various possible permutations with multiple witness and multiple principals I thought to include a new and separate attribute based on the witness attribute relating a named witness to a particular principal at the same date as the related event using the =RELATIONSHIP() function. I tried "{individual} was {principal}'s {=Relationship([{principal}],%INDI%,TEXT,1)}" but I clearly have missed something obvious as all I get is Jane SMITH was John BROWN's {=Relationship([{principal}],%INDI%,TEXT,1)}.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way?

You have chosen to attempt something quite complicated and also I think stumbled into a fault in FH.

{individual} was {principal}'s {=Relationship([{principal}],%INDI%,TEXT,1)} is a good attempt.
However, you cannot use Codes such as {principal} inside Functions such as =Relationship()
There is a Wish List request to provide similar capabilities but that has not been implemented.

So you must use Data References such as %INDI% for both the people in the first two parameters.
In these Witness Sentences, there are two such Data References (see Sentence Template Codes near the bottom).
%CUR_PRIN% refers to the current fact Principal person
%CUR~WITN>% refers to the current fact Witness person
If you compose a Sentence such as Principal is {%CUR_PRIN%} and Witness is {%CUR~WITN>%} it works fine.

So {=Relationship( %CUR_PRIN%, %CUR~WITN>%, TEXT, 1 )} should work but it doesn't!
The problem is %CUR_PRIN% which if replaced by FileRoot() produces a relationship to the File Root person.

All I can suggest is that you report the problem to Calico Pie via their http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php support ticket system and state that in a Witness Sentence the function {=Relationship( %CUR_PRIN%, %CUR~WITN>%, TEXT, 1 )} should work but it does not and the fault lies with %CUR_PRIN%.

Tatewise - Thank you your solution {=Relationship( %CUR_PRIN%, %CUR~WITN>%, TEXT, 1 )} worked for the witness's sentence and Calico Pie helped me with the Principal's sentence which is now {=Relationship( %CUR_PRIN%, %FACT._SHAR[1]>%, TEXT, 1 )}.

May I ask where a list of expressions such as the quoted one below exists?
=Relationship(FileRoot(),,TEXT,1)

I didn't want to start a new thread as this is related, I built on the All Individuals query to create a new Records window layout which best suited my needs. I have run into many problems which I only solved by examining built in queries which already reported the data which I wanted.

This was one feature which drew me to FH and I would like to become more proficient at building queries.
