Sharing Facts?

Post by Rusty » 06 Jun 2020 11:01

Is it necessary to share a Birth Certificate with the 'Mother' and 'Father'? I share the fact with the 'Informant' who is usually one of the parents, but do others also share with the parents, it seems like a lot of extra work when child is automatically joined to the parents, unless I suppose Adoption is involved but I'm talking about just one set of parents.

By "share the fact with the 'Informant'" you mean add a Fact Witness with Role of Informant to the Birth event.
To achieve that, have you used ancestralsources:family_historian_birth_death_informant_witness_role|> Family Historian Birth & Death Informant & Other Witness Roles?

No, it is NOT usual to add the parents as Fact Witnesses.
However, it is usual to have Citations on various parent facts derived from the Birth Certificate source record.
Possibly there could be a <whole record> ~ Citation on both Individual parent records.
There will usually be Citations on Residence and Occupation and maybe other facts for the parents.

See how_to:recording_details_from_a_birth_certificate|> Recording from a Birth Certificate that explains the whole process using either Automatic Source Citations or Ancestral Sources.

I have included a comprehensive set of advice (that you may already know) for the benefit of others reading this thread.
