Restoring full backup zip files
Hi
I have been doing a full backup in V6 on a regular basis. I have just tried to do a restore from one of these files which are zip files, but the program comes up with a box saying that "Unrecognised file format" I am using Windows 10. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks John

Re: Restoring full backup zip files
When restoring from a full backup you need to use the FH command File > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup .

Re: Restoring full backup zip files
What is the full filename of the backup file you are selecting?
Does the same problem affect all such backup ZIP files?

Re: Restoring full backup zip files
I guess you've slightly mistyped that and it is FH Project Backup - yatesfh26.2.11merged3420 - 2020-05-28 0831.zip
i.e. there are extra spaces and hyphens and the month is 05 not 5
Try using Windows File Explorer and navigate to where those ZIP folders are saved.
With the ZIP folders in the left-hand pane can you click on the > expansion icons and fully expand the Project structure?
If you right-click on any ZIP folder and choose Extract All... will the contents unpack into a folder?
If none of those work either, then are there any mitigating circumstances?
Is there anything we should know about your Windows 10 or File Explorer configuration that might be non-standard?
As a stab in the dark ~ try removing the dots in 26.2.11 from the filename.
If you create a similar Full Backup for the Family Historian Sample Project does that behave correctly or not?

Thanks Mike
Your suggestion of using windows to expand an right click and expand all worked. Thank you very much. John

Re: Restoring full backup zip files
But if you have only expanded and not extracted they are still compressed ZIP files and cannot be used directly by FH.
Use the Extract All option and then the files can be copied into the FH Project folders as required.
Did you try any of the other experiments with removing dots from filename or backing up the FH Sample Project?
If you can discover what FH does not like about the Backup files it should be reported to Calico Pie.
