In recent weeks I have been having increasing difficulty in viewing saved media records. When I click on a media item mostly it will open OK but sometimes it will say 'Unable to load object. Out of memory.' or 'An error has occurred. Unable to load object' These messages, and the inability to view, started a few weeks ago and have been happening more frequently recently.
This happens one day with a particular media item but then the next day that media item will open OK but another will not.
Any suggestions as to how to address and rectify the problem?

Re: Media Links
This kind of problem has cropped up before, but not been reported by anyone for some time.
Solutions that have helped in the past may work now.
Delete the Thumbcache.dat file in the Project's ...fh_data\Cache\ folder, which holds image thumbnails but never gets purged so can grow enormously large.
Try switching off the thumbnail cache in FH by using Tools > Preferences > General tab, Advanced... button at bottom, and set Thumbnail Images: to Load When Needed and then delete the Thumbcache.dat file again.
If that all fails to fix the problem then report it to Calico Pie.

Am I the thickest user on here??
Am still having the same problem with images failing to open. When I go to the Media Window I can see the image/photo that I wish to load/open but when I click on it to do so it comes up with message saying unable to load. Yesterday that happened a few times and by closing and re-opening the programmes several times I eventually succeeded in uploading. Today I am having no success at all.
Have no idea where to find 'Thumbcache' and/or the other tools suggested so have been unable to attempt rectification myself and now have been unable to find out how to address the query directly to FH.

Re: Media Links
Assuming you have your Family Historian Projects folder in the default location and your Project name is Project-X the Thumbcache.dat file is found in Windows File Explorer here:
...\Documents\Family Historian Projects\Project-X\Project-X.fh_data\Cache\Thumbcache.dat
Replace Project-X with whatever your Project is called. After deleting that file try FH again to see if any better.
If not, the tools are in FH via the Tools menu, Preferences option, and the General tab (which is shown first).
At the bottom click the Advanced... button and set Thumbnail Images: to Load When Needed and click OK.
Delete the Thumbcache.dat file again and see if FH is any better.
To report to Calico Pie see how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting.
