Post by kcuypers » 27 Apr 2020 02:16

Hello,

If you see the picture from my index, you can see what problem I have. The text is overlapping. Is there a solution to this problem?

Greetings

The FH CD/DVD wizard sets a fixed width for that Index of Names surname column.
There are various workarounds that will increase the width but the best solution is to use the technique explained in the how_to:make_family_tree|> Make a Family Tree CD/DVD or Website in how_to:make_family_tree:tips_and_tricks_and_popups|> Family Tree ~ Tips and Tricks and Popups under how_to:make_family_tree:alter_css_default_styles|> Family Tree Tips ~ Alter CSS Default Styles.

It sounds a bit complex, but is the best solution, and allows other custom changes to the page style.

1. Insert HTML Head Code
In the Make a Family Tree CD/DVD wizard at Step 8 – Final Details click the Advanced button and insert the following HTML code at the end of the <head> section:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="custom/mystyle.css">

2. Add CSS Script
In your ...\Public\FH CD-DVD\data folder create a custom subfolder.
Use a plain text editor such as Notepad to create a mystyle.css cascading style sheet file.
When you save that file initially set the File name: mystyle.css and Save as type: All Files (*.*) and then Save.

The content of that mystyle.css must simply be .FhIndexList ul li {margin-left:25em;} on line of its own.
The numerical value may need to be 30em or larger until the surnames do not overlap.

To correct just the Index of Names that is the only change needed, but you may find the other tips useful.

Thanks Tatewise,

You help me a lot.
The only item I want to have more is a search engine in making a CD/DVD. So I will put it in the New wish list request.
again, thanks a lot.

Greeting

Koenraad, the 'Improve Website of CD DVD HTML' plugin allows you to add a search and filter facility to the index of names.

And if you install a browser plugin like 'Search the current site' for Chrome, you can search your whole 'site' with Google.

The Improve Website or CD DVD HTML Plugin Version 3.0 Date 11 May 2020 published in the Plugin Store now has an option to limit the length of the Surnames listed in the first column of the Index of Names. Also the Help & Advice for that option mentions the .FhIndexList ul li {margin-left:25em;} style CSS command to adjust the width of that column.
