Two questions please:
My GGfather was illegitimate, my GGmother had two boys by the same married man. Both were registered using their father's surname, whilst she maintained her maiden name - she lived only 1km away from the address of the man who fathered the two sons, his wife and their 4 children. My GGmother only adopted the surname of the father for herself after he died. Unless I have missed something I can't change her surname at will so that it reflects this. There is no provision in FH to change a surname on a specified date?
Our eldest, now lives in Quebec and is married to a Quebecois woman. Quebec, still rigidly adheres to the old French policy of a married woman continuing to use her maiden surname. A woman seeking to changing her name by Deed Poll is illegal (even if she wished to, which seems less likely today when both sexes seek equality)
How do I cater for that? Our two granddaughters do use their father's surname, just as Annie Claude uses her father's surname.

Re: Surname of women after marriage
This is quite a recurring question.
The first thing to make clear is that there are subtle differences between genealogical records in such as FH and popular real-life scenarios.
The genealogical convention is that people are recorded with their official birth name, usually as per Birth Certificate.
Where and how would you expect to see a name automatically change depending on a date?
Imagine how a Report or a Diagram is produced and how such name changes would appear?!
See how_to:handle_people_with_multiple_names|> How to Handle People With Multiple Names for examples including how to swap between alternative names.
