Re: Back up
I assume that you are referring to backing up a V6 FH Project, as opposed to the actual V6 program software. Go to File>Backup/Restore and select the desired backup option. Picture is attached for the Full Backup option, which is what I always do. That insures that all my images will get backed up as well.
Once you select the desired Backup option, you will be prompted for the drive & folder location. Just select your external drive. If you want to save the backup under a particular folder, just select that folder, or, create a new one. If you do not select a folder, FH will just create a backup zip file under the external drive letter that you select.
As others will surely mention, if you have made any custom settings in FH, you will want to back those up as well with the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin.

Re: Back up
Welcome to the FHUG Bryn.
When you joined you were advised to study the how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.
That has a Backup & Recovery section which refers to the glossary:backup_and_recovery|> Backup and Recovery advice.
There it explains about using the command recommended by Bob.
It also refers to the Tools > Preferences > Backup tab where you specify the default backup folder and other settings.
The Plugin for saving custom settings as recommended by Bob is also mentioned.
