Custom Tabs

Post by Mike Davies » 30 Jan 2020 18:05

Hi All please can someone help.
I run FH on my desk top (Windows 7 pro) and a lap top via Dropbox. My laptop crashed some months ago and I've now bought a new one running Windows 10. I loaded FH version 6 up and downloaded my project from Dropbox, and all the records completed in the intervening months were all there and all was well except that my custom tabs, Census and Military, were not there whereas they are still on the desktop.
I attempted to download the tabs from the knowledge base and these were saved to the laptop. Going to the property box cog wheel - customise property box - more tab tasks- import tabs, the files do not appear when the "property box tab files" is shown, however when I use the "all files (*.*)" from the drop down list the files appear but when I click on them a new small window appears with the message "Family Historian unrecognised file format" with a yellow warning triangle and an OK box. Clicking the OK box brings up another warning box saying " A problem occurred. Task may not have completed properly" plus the OK box. Clicking the OK box brings me back to the customise property box but the tabs are not in the property box.
What am I not doing? Thanks in advance.
Mike Davies
PS I've tried to attach screen shots but not been able to, whereas I have in the past been able to do this.

I suspect you might have grabbed the wrong files as they would have appeared if they were the correct ones.

Make sure the files are

pb-indi-military.fhpbt Military tab

pb-indi-census.fhpbt Census tab

pb-indi-wills.fhpbt Wills tab

Note the fhpbt extension. If you have the correct files you can simply double click on them to install, when FH is not running.

Thanks for your swift reply Jane. I downloaded the Three fact sets as shown in the KB but where do I find the files you mentioned?

They are on this page. (Scroll down about half way):
fhugdownloads:contents:property_box_tabs_military_census_wills|> Property Box Tab ~ Military & Census & Wills

Mike, your best bet is to follow the how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide at least as far as the Backup and Restore FH Settings Plugin is concerned.

That will migrate ALL your custom settings from PC to PC.

You may be mixing up Fact Sets with Property Box Tabs and you probably need both.
So it is better to use the Plugin method that copes with ALL your customisations.
Otherwise, you will almost certainly keep finding missing custom Diagram, Report, Query, Plugin, etc, etc, settings.
