Are you aware of the difference between saving as a Custom Diagram, which is actually a diagram type, and saving as a Family Historian Chart?
The terminology can be confusing. A Custom Diagram type saves the overall style of the diagram (e.g. Descendants/Ancestors/All Relatives, Text Scheme, Colour Scheme, how many generations are displayed) and this type can then be used again with any other person as the diagram root. But it will not preserve the particular adjustments you have made in the distances between siblings, because those adjustments apply only to a particular root person with particular relatives. To preserve those adjustments you should save the diagram as a Family Historian Chart, which can be accessed from View>Saved Charts. Even with such a chart, the layout will change slightly if any relatives have been added since it was created. (Apologies if you already know this)
