Installation User Name

Post by AlanParry » 17 Dec 2019 10:29

After a pc crash I have had to reinstall version 5 from the demo download. I have my license key card but when I try and enter the key it also requires my User name that I used when I first installed it. I have no idea what that user name is, is there any way I can find it out.

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan, sorry to hear about your PC crash, and hope that you have good backups.

You have posted in the past regarding V3 and V4, so maybe you bought a V4 to V5 Upgrade download from Calico Pie.
In that case you cannot use the V5 full download from their Download Archive.

In your backups you might find the original Email from Calico Pie with the licence details and installation download.
But in the likelihood that you cannot get that then you must Email Calico Pie to send those details again.
See how_to:family_historian_licence_problems|> Family Historian Licence Problems for a full explanation.

If on the other hand, you bought FH V5 some other way, then you will have to find the CD box set and the licence details that came with it. The fact that you refer to licence card maybe indicates this is the case, so you must find the installation CD that came with the card. Box sets do not need a user name.

I bought v3 box set, then V4 and v5 upgrades. They each came with a license card. Unfortunately the crash also took out my cd drive so I can't start with the V3 disks and then apply the upgrades.

I was hoping the v5 demo download would work, it installed ok, and the first thing it asks for is a user name and key code to make it full, I have the key code but can't remember (didn't note) my username....

Looks like I may need to contact calico and ask their advise.

I can't see a link to contact them on their Family Historian Website, is there a best contact?

Thanks,

Alan

You don't need to start from V3 or V4, just the V5 Upgrade CD will work on its own, and it will ask for both the V4 and V5 licence keys.

Since you bought CD box sets, Calico Pie cannot help. There is no user name for CD installations, so you never had one.

You will have to fix your CD Drive problem, or fit an external USB connected CD drive, or ask a friend to copy the CD onto a USB memory stick and install from that. See how_to:family_historian_installation_details|> Family Historian Installation Details below the flowchart where it says "If you only have an Installation CD, but your new PC is a Netbook/Laptop with no CD drive, then..."

If you cannot get any of those to work it might be possible for you to persuade Calico Pie to help out with a user name and licence key for the V5 download if you can convince them you have genuine CD licence keys. The advice I referred you to explains how to contact Calico Pie via their ticket system.

Not sure why you could not see the contact information on the web site it's
https://www.family-historian.co.uk/contact
and here
https://www.family-historian.co.uk/supp ... t-overview

If you can't get access to a CD drive, you could try sending them a scan of your V5 licence and see if they can help.
