I just deleted a birth date that had a note (record) attached to the individual. I wanted to also delete the note, but I only had the option to unlink it. On looking at the Gedcom file, I see the note record is still there, but nothing refers to it.
I haven't found any UI to to do that or a plugin that appears to do that. I've also looked through Help.
It seems like there should be a Query for unused references, but I haven't found it.
So how do I get rid of it? Apart from editing the Gedcom file.
Thanks.

Re: How do you delete a note record?
Go to View>Record Lists>Notes
Select each one you want to delete and press the delete key or select Edit>Delete from the menu,
You can Alt-Click on the Link count column header to sort the unused ones to the top.

Ken, have you worked through how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers as advised?
Under Records & Fields & Multimedia there are links to Record Types and the Records Window and Note Records.
"Getting the Most From Family Historian" Chapter 7. Browsing, Searching & Editing in the Records Window explains how to view all records and Delete Record.
Also see how_to:delete_a_large_number_of_records|> Delete Any Number of Records.

Re: How do you delete a note record?
I did that, and the Edit menu option was grayed out. It had been grayed out everywhere else where it seemed reasonable to delete it, so I wasn't surprised. I just tried again, and it worked, so it looks like it was my error.Go to View>Record Lists>Notes
Select each one you want to delete and press the delete key or select Edit>Delete from the menu,
And sorting this tab seems a way to do what I wanted: find unused references. I would never have thought to use Alt-click to sort in reverse. Usually these windows work by each time you click, it sorts with the opposite sort order.
I apologize. It was my mistake.
Thanks.
Mike,
No, I have not followed all the links in Knowledge Base > Key Features for Newcomers. It's very inconvenient to learn that way, at least for me, and I wouldn't have remembered it all anyway. I work better with things like the Getting the most out of ... book. I didn't go there for this problem, however. I actually was in the right place (Records Window), but apparently did something wrong when trying to delete it.
Looks like I was working too late yesterday.
But thanks.

Re: How do you delete a note record?
The option will be greyed when ever you do not have a record selected.
So on the Record list there must be a record selected in blue (if you have not changed the colours)

Also it is greyed out if you select more than one record.
You can only delete one at a time using that method.
The other documented methods I mentioned cater for bulk deletion.
It has been mentioned before about the Alt click reverse sort versus repeated clicks.
I think it was said that Alt click reverse sort has been a popular alternative, but cannot remember the details.
