Re: Steps to follow after adding a birth transcription

Welcome to the FHUG John.

There is advice in the Knowledge Base and some was included in the how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers provided when you joined and advised to study.
The Documentation & Tutorials topic covers adding Facts with Source Citations; see Getting the Most From Family Historian Chapter 12. Recording Your Sources.
The Sources Methods 1 & 2 topic goes into details about Source Citation techniques.
The Ancestral Sources companion program offers an efficient way of capturing many popular Facts with Source Citations.

Also see how_to:index#recording_facts_and_sources|> Recording Facts and Sources that has a specific example for Recording from a Birth Certificate.
( It is not clear whether your downloaded transcription is for a Birth Certificate or the much less detailed GRO Birth Index that needs a slightly different approach, or perhaps a Baptism Record that is different again. There are examples of all those in the Family Historian Sample Project. )

Take a look at the Family Historian Sample Project where several Individuals have Birth events with Source Citations.

A key point to note is that document images are not usually attached to Individual records on their Media tab, which is reserved for their photos. Instead, such documents are attached to the Media tab of the Source record cited by many Facts (yes, plural Facts, since for example a Birth Certificate can support Facts for not just the person's birth but also their parent's residence and occupation).
