Occupation/Voluntary roles

Post by ColinMc »

I have a gentleman whose Occupation was Minister.

I also know that at various times during his Ministry he undertook various additional roles, for example

Superintendent of the General Hospital
&
Head of the Associated Charities, now the Board of Public Welfare

These are not "occupations" but I have not spotted a suitable alternative fact in the "All Facts" list. I know I can create my own, but before doing so, what do others use to record this information?

Thanks

I would use Occupation as in its loosest sense that includes: position, post, vocation, calling, etc.
The Cambridge English Dictionary says "Occupation: a person's job; a regular activity or hobby;"
Others have similar broad definitions.

Thanks. I'm quite happy to take that advice and keep it simple.

I am happy to have multiple occupations recorded say at a specific census; so I will record "Blacksmith" as an occupation fact and "Bailiff for County Court" as a separate occupation fact.

As long as I am consistent with the spelling of "Blacksmith" / "Black Smith" etc. this allows me to do more useful analysis of occupations.
