Can you help me with an example of when a Note Record might be considered instead of a family, individual or fact note.

So far it is an option I have never used, but I'm wondering when it might be appropriate. To date, all my notes seem (to me at least) to have been covered by the three main types, but again I'm concerned that I may be missing something.

I imagine that if I come across some family information that mentions no individuals it might be relevant. For example I do have a story about a murder committed at a property that was a long term family residence but which they left 40 years before the murder. Might this be appropriate as a Note Record, and if so, where would it appear in a report/book?

I've just spotted a Note Record in the Sample Project. I understand how that would fit as an introduction a tree/report. It is more of an intro note really, and this note would be ideally suited almost as a subtitle to a Project name.

Checkout the Family Historian Sample Project that, although not always ideal, does have many useful examples.
In the Records Window on the Notes tab there is a record shared by several members of the MUNRO family.

Note records are also useful for keeping general information handy, not necessarily linked to anything.

Your murder story is an interesting case, but considering where it might appear in a Report/Book is excellent because it constrains your options.
It rather depends where you want it to appear. Embedded in an Individual report page, or a separate stand-alone page.
For the former it must be linked to at least one Individual or Family somehow and that can be done in their Property Box on the Notes tab via the Add Note button. Alternatively, it may work better as a Source record.
