Diagram only showing one surname but with spouses and children
Subject title not easy to explain
If I want to produce a diagram of all "Bloggs" in my family I use "all relatives" BUT I then use the expansion buttons to delete all surnames other than Bloggs other than the spouses (surnames) . In other words where children are produced from a Bloggs relationship I do not want to see the female names. By using the expansion buttons does not "close up the chart" and leaves it too large.
Is there a way to produce a chart in this manner the GRAB takes too long in a chart of 1800 people.
Any help welcome
Best regards

When you close branches using the expansion buttons the Diagram should close up automatically.
I don't understand why it does not contract in your case.
Perhaps you could post before and after screenshots.
However, going around the Diagram clicking expansion buttons is a tedious and error prone process.
The solution is to create a Named List of just the people you want included in your Diagram.
Then use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File and Select... that Named List.
The resulting GEDCOM can be used to compose the desired All Relatives Diagram.
Then the GEDCOM file can be deleted if you wish.
See how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia|> Exporting a Family Tree with/without Media for details & options.
From time to time when new branches are added to your tree you will need to update the Named List.

Another possible option would be to used a query selecting all people whose surname is not blogs, use that to mark and select all the "non" blogs boxes (diagram>Selection and Marks>Set Clear Marks using Query) and then select Diagram>hide<Hide Selected Boxes.

Jane, how would that handle the Spouses of Bloggs that he wants to retain?
His complaint is more that Diagram does not 'close up' when boxes are hidden rather than the method of selecting boxes.

Re: Diagram only showing one surname but with spouses and children
Maybe, but it depends on a number of factors.
See how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia|> Exporting a Family Tree with/without Media for details of the options.
You will almost certainly need to use the Export Gedcom File Plugin to convert the GEDCOM & Media for whatever family tree program your family are using.
If you include Media photos & documents, they must accompany the GEDCOM in the format produced by the above Plugin.
Whether you can use Email attachments depends on the size of the GEDCOM and Media files, and the limits imposed by your family member's Email service provider, so it may be better to use a DVD or USB memory stick.
An alternative is to produce a family database/tree that can be viewed using any browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, etc.)
One method is to use the FH Publish > Make a Family Tree CD/DVD.
Another is to use the Export Gedcom File Plugin method above for online trees in Ancestry, FindMyPast, ZoomPast, etc.

Re: Diagram only showing one surname but with spouses and children
Yes, but they don't all accept the same GEDCOM features, especially the character encodings and custom tags.
e.g.
FH by default uses the UNICODE (UTF-16) encoding that is only supported by a few products.
FH supports Fact Witnesses that uses a custom extension only supported by a few products.
Also Media use Face Frames and other custom tags not supported by any products.
See the glossary:gedcom_extension_list|> GEDCOM Extension List for details.
So you will probably find that the default FH GEDCOM will NOT work with some of those products used by your family.
It may need some experimentation with the Export Gedcom File Plugin to find settings acceptable to everyone.
The (Std) Standard Gedcom 5.5 or (Sdr) Standard Gedcom Draft 5.5.1 modes with UTF-8 encoding might be a starting point.
That is why I suggested the browser based alternatives, which are not dependant on their genealogy products.

Re: Diagram only showing one surname but with spouses and children
Thanks again Mike
I can export to my 2014 FTM and create a GEDCOM from there I am sure that will be good enough for the family.

Re: Diagram only showing one surname but with spouses and children
Do you regularly export from FH to FTM? Does that include Media?
If not a regular & familiar export, then that needs careful use of the Export Gedcom File Plugin settings.
I suspect the GEDCOM exported from FTM will suffer all the same problems I summarised before
FTM has a similar set of Export to GEDCOM options as the FH Export Gedcom File Plugin.
I think you will do better to use the FH Export Gedcom File Plugin directly.
Why introduce an unnecessary intermediate step that will only complicate the process?
