Unable to sort Note Records

Post by Gowermick »

I have added two Note Records to an individual, but once added, am unable to sort them in the order I want.
It would seem the order they were added to the individual fixes their position. I found a workaround, by deleting the topmost Note Record, then re-adding it, so it becomes the bottom Note Record!
Is it worth mentioning to CP as a bug?

NB A similar problem occurs when a Note record is added alongside a Local note. You can re-order them by moving the Local Note, but not if you try to move the Note Record!

EDIT
It would appear this latter behaviour is not consistent! But being unable to sort Note Records is consistent

Have you tried moving them on the All tab?

Personally I don't use free standing notes as it's not an ideal way to handle them, I always attach notes to facts so they can be ordered more easily. Using a blank sentence or one with {note} in.

Jane,
Yes they sort on All tab, so another (better) workaround!

But they should still sort on Notes tab, which they don't!

NB There isn't always a fact to associate them with. Where would you stick a note to say Individual is a twin?

I have a twin fact so I can have a nice sentence with a witness for the twin. If you don't want to do that I would put it against the Birth Fact.

My concern with putting it against the birth fact, is that it is not readily seen, which is why I am moving it from a flag to a Note Record in the first place!

One has to be looking at the birth fact to see the note! Adding it as a Note Record, means it is always visible on the Notes Tab, and if so arranged can even be set to show in focus window!

Ah, not always!
Despite changing order on the All Tab, they may still show wrong order on Notes Tab. If one shifts focus to another individual then back, the refresh mechanism seems to correct it. It would seem the Note Tab is not always refreshing properly after changes to All Tab

Definitely something CP should look at. I'll raise a bug report

What I found strange, and presumably you have covered in the ticket, is that on the Notes tab the bold black Move Up and Move Down arrows are often not enabled when they should be.
The only cases enabled allow a Note Record adjacent to a Local Note to be moved above/below the Local Note.
Whereas, when there are multiple notes, the first should allow Move Down, the last should allow Move Up, and those not lfirst or last should allow both Move Up and Move Down.

In addition to all that, Note Records linked to a Fact are not even listed on the Notes tab.

Mike,
I covered your point about arrows being greyed out, but not the point you raised about Fact notes being shown in Notes Tab.

I couldn't raise a note about that as I didn't know they should have been shown!

Can one add to a raised ticket? (Covered in the accompanying e-mail from CP)

I have added an addendum to cover the last point you made

Fact notes are only shown if you request them (little calendar icon with a + on it)

Yes Helen, but linked Note Records are still not listed for Facts.
Only Local Notes are listed for Facts.

BTW: Linked Note Records attached to a Family Record are listed, but the Move Up/Down arrows are never enabled.

Martin at CP has responded to say they have confirmed the problem exists, and have logged it to be investigated and fixed.
