I purchased Family Historian 6 and when I installed it and start using it, I found that the command "SAVE AS" is missing. Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Michael

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
Welcome to the FHUG Michael.
It rather depends on what you are trying to do.
If you want to save a Project backup copy, then use the File > Backup/Restore command and choose one of the options.
See glossary:backup_and_recovery|> Backup and Recovery for full details, which is one of the many topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers that you are strongly advised to study.
If you want to save a copy of a Project under a new name, then in the File > Project Window select the source Project and use More Tasks > Copy Project where the copy can be given a new name. (There is also Rename Project.)
For completeness, there is a File > Gedcom File Tasks > Save a Gedcom File Copy command, but that only handles the GEDCOM file, not a whole Project, and is provided as a legacy feature from pre-Project versions that you should never need to use.
If you are trying to do something else, or you are not even using Projects, then please reply with details of your scenario, such as where you imported your data from, or whether you are starting from scratch, or what.

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
Michael,
I too cannot find "save as". In the help file if you search for "save as" one option presented is "file save as dialogue" but I cannot find this "save as" which is referred to only "save". I am sorry but cannot answer your question but can only confirm what you have said.

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
Michael, did you see my reply?
What do you mean by "save the file" because an FH Project is not one file and can't be saved as a PDF.
Perhaps you don't understand the Project structure. You can Backup a Project as a ZIP file to a thumb drive.
OR you can keep your Projects permanently on a thumb drive ~ what exactly are you trying to achieve?
See how_to:v4:understanding_projects|> Understanding Projects which is another topic in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers that you are strongly advised to study.
You can save a Diagram Chart using the Diagram > Save Diagram As > PDF File (,pdf) and save it anywhere you like.
That is covered in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers in the Book Getting the Most From Family Historian.

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
Yes, I am currently evaluating Family Historian, and the lack of a "Save As" command may well stop me from purchasing it. It appears that each day I use it, it will have to go into my source directory, copy and change the file name manually, and then go into FH and update the file name it is to open! How primitive can you get! Must be a hangover from its DOS origins?

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
Why do you want to keep changing the filename?
By default FH keeps a number of 'Snapshots' of your Gedcom file as a short term backup. (Search for 'Snapshot Manager' in the Help files.)
If you want to keep many different versions of your Gedcom file or entire project you can use the File>Backup/Restore commands, or simply use the Tools>Preferences>Backup options to set this as a default action when FH is closed.

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
In addition, if you are saving to a cloud service such as OneDrive or Dropbox, that will manage previous versions of your project files automatically.
Changing the filename manually is so primitive...

Re: SAVE AS COMMAND
If you really want a different Project name then use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Rename/Copy Project.
The thing to recognise is that a genealogy product such as FH involves more than just one file.
Most other genealogy products are the same and have a database of several files and many media image files.
They are very different from such as a word-processor or spreadsheet that just has one file.
If you are only working with a standalone GEDCOM file, then see File > Gedcom File Tasks > Save a Gedcom File Copy... which is 'Save As' for a GEDCOM file.
If you have not done so already, then please read the 'Quick Start Guide' found in the Help menu.
That explains how to import a GEDCOM file into a Project.
BTW: Family Historian has no legacy connection with DOS.
Family Historian has been voted the best genealogy software for several years by at least two review sites.
