I don't want to delete these without knowing what I am losing but it is cluttering up what I am doing and its driving me nuts... does anyone know what they signify and how I found the information they link to/relate to so I can decide whether to keep them?

Link/Note in Multimedia Window
I am seeing lots of Link/Note nodes in the Linked Record & Notes group of the Multimedia Window but I can't find out what they refer to. I suspect they have been added when I was using Ancestral Sources as I only see them in relation to census images and I have only used Ancestral Sources to input some census data. I also often see the same individual listed twice in this list - once with Loc. field blank but a flag set to prevent printing in reports (where I have linked the individual to the line on the census image) and once with "Source" in the Loc. field - again I have no idea what this means but suspect its related to Ancestral Sources (which I have stopped using as I was finding it more tedious than adding all the data by hand directly in FH)....

Re: Link/Note in Multimedia Window
Welcome to the FHUG Ronnie.
The main message is leave those Link/Notes alone, don't delete them, they are perfectly normal.
They are not specifically created by AS but it is quite likely.
When viewing each Link/Note the name listed refers to the record (usually Individual or Source) that links to the Media record.
Any Exclude from Diagrams/Reports settings, or Use Note as Caption, or any Link to Face/Detail frames are saved within the Link/Note.
If you use the Media Window, and select one Media thumbnail, the Links tab above will show all the associated record details.
I am not sure what you mean by the Loc. field. Do you mean Location shown on the Media Record tab?
If AS is used in the default Method 1 splitter mode for Source Citations then Media is only ever linked to Source records and never Individual records. So maybe you have chosen Method 2 lumper mode that will repeatedly add the same Media image to every Citation (for say Census, Birth & Occupation) for one Individual and may result in multiple entries in Reports, and that replication is why Method 2 is not recommended.
BTW:
I have to say that I'm surprised you find AS more tedious than adding all the data by hand.
I wonder if you are using AS in the most effective way, and appreciate all the features it offers.
Presumably you are adding all the people from one Census household in one AS grid session, and realise that it adds not just Census Events but also Birth Events and Occupation facts, etc, for all those people in one go, with the same Source Citation for each one, but just one Source record (if using default Method 1) to avoid replicated data entry.
Did you see the ancestralsources:ancestral_sources_tutorial_entering_census_facts|> Ancestral Sources Tutorial ~ Enter Census Facts referenced from how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers?
If you wish to discuss this further then please start a new thread in the AS Forum.

Re: Link/Note in Multimedia Window
Thank you for taking the time to help out here. I realize I may not be using AS effectively but haven't been able to work out a better way as yet (I know about entering the data but it seems if I want to record the household number in the address field I can only enter one household at a time and having to find and link the census page is tedious in the tiny window that is on the form) . I read the description of methods 1 & 2 several times but each time I doze off before I can grasp what it is talking about, I am sure it is a perfectly accurate description I just can't make sense of it.
With regard to the link/note issue I have attached a couple of pics of the window with the link/notes showing in pink with the yellow node. Not sure what you mean "When viewing each Link/Note the name listed refers to the record" - this is precisely my problem, clicking on them doesn't seem to show any details of what the link is to or what the note is. A double left click does nothing and a right click brings up a handful of options about exclusions or using as a note caption.

Re: Link/Note in Multimedia Window
Please post in the Ancestral Sources Forum so we can review your mode of use, including the problem of the tiny window.
I suspect you are using Link existing image already in the file that is rarely needed when capturing new Census records.
Yes, it is normally necessary to enter one household at a time, but you can enter several households one after the other in a single AS session, optionally with details retained from household to household.
In brief, taking UK 1851 Census as an example:
I cannot remember for sure, but from your screenshots it seems the Multimedia Window of FH V5 is much less useful.
Review how_to:finding_where_records_are_used|> Finding where Records are used and try the Where Used Record Links Plugin to list where the Media records are used. There is also a Plugin to rectify abnormal Link/Notes if necessary.

In brief, taking UK 1851 Census as an example:
- Method 1 has many Source records, one per household, that hold the household reference to Page & Schedule, Text From Source transcript and Media image.
Each Citation usually holds nothing except perhaps an Entry Date and Assessment. - Method 2 has just one Source record for entire UK 1852 Census and holds very little.
Each Citation holds the Where within Source household reference to Page & Schedule, and optionally the Text From Source transcript and Media image, which would be replicated many times.
I cannot remember for sure, but from your screenshots it seems the Multimedia Window of FH V5 is much less useful.
