Focus Window/Spouses & Children

Post by stripey » 14 Aug 2018 14:24

Can anyone explain to me what controls the down arrow icon in the LH column is designed to work? This is a very useful feature for navigating through the generations but its operation is erratic to say the least - help

I'm assuming you mean the down arrow next to one of the children (could be more than one if there has been marriages of cousins further down the line). This denotes that said child is a direct line ancestor of the root person. Clicking it, or indeed any of the icons in that column, simply changes focus to that child. Ultimately following the arrows will lead to the root person.

David
Thanks for that. I would like to use the facility as you describe but when the direct descendant child (who is the direct descendant) does not have the "down arrow" I would like to know what has to be done to make this happen?

David, you have provide me with the answer. I made the root person the most modern person in my family tree and I can now use the "down arrow" to navigate from the oldest relative to the present time.
Many thanks

I would like to comment, that sometimes the software does ‘lose’ the blue arrow, and it goes missing. But by shifting focus to say the grandfather, then back to the father, it seems to refresh itself, and all is well again. I can only assume that I’m overwhelming the software with changes, and it needs a gentle nudge to get back on track :D
