Family Historian User Group

FH can provide Internet Data Match hints from FindMyPast and MyHeritage which I find very helpful, but other family history products provide matches with Ancestry and FamilySearch. Hints from FS, in particular, would be very welcome as it's a free to use.

I’m not surprised about programmes using hints from both Ancestry AND FamilySearch, as these two sites are closely linked via the Church Of Latter Day Saints. Ancestry even quote results using LDS film numbers on occasions. Miketate has already commented that Calico do not provide hints for Ancestry, due to their exorbitant charge for accessing their data, and sadly, I’d expect a similar charge to be applied by FamilySearch. . So don’t hold your breath, waiting for hints from either.

Almost as good are the Lookup Missing Census Facts and Lookup Missing BMD Records Plugins that offer filtered searches for missing details from a chosen selection of Indiviudals and support Ancestry, FindMyPast, FamilySearch, and MyHeritage.

One snag with FH 'hints' is that they take no account of existing Source Citations in your Project.
Another is that you must bring the Individual into Focus Window to see the 'hints'.

Some of the hints MyHeritage reports are from FamilySearch trees (not sure if they use the record sets but doubt it).

I get around the Ancestry lack by uploading a private tree and looking for the shaky leaves on-site.

Mick: I'd not realised that Ancestry would charge Calico for providing hints: I thought their business model would be to attract subscriptions from as many sources as possible.

Mike: Yes, I'm starting to look at the plugins for FamilySearch and Ancestry that you mention.
