Changing text in a part of the source title
Hello,
Is this possible with a query ?
I want to change only a part of my source title :
Old :
Neerpelt 1828-1864, Microfilm FamilySearch, nummer SPG7-929 - 1863 - Overlijdensakte 21
New:
Neerpelt 1828-1864, Microfilm FamilySearch, nummer 1231495 - 1863 - Overlijdensakte 21
so only the number must change "SPG7-929" to "1231495"
Greetings
Koenraad

Koenraad,
Maybe I am misunderstanding what you want to do, but have you tried going to the Sources tab in the records window, selecting the source in the list, and then changing the title in the property box?

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
Koenraad,
Are you saying there are 14000 different sources and all have different titles that need different numbers changed in each of them? Or are you saying there are 14000 different records all of which use the same source?

Hello Bill,
There are 14000 different sources, 1 for Birth, 1 for Death, 1 for baptisme...
Every source will specify the microfilm , where , the fact and the Deednumber.
But not all sources must be change !! and only a part (the microfolm number)

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
Koenraad,
Not sure how you could do this in an automated fashion. Seems like you would have to have some type of table to change the old number to the new number.
As far as I know, a query can not change anything, only create a listing of records that match the given criteria. It may be possible with some type of plugin, but this is beyond my capability.
Tomorrow Mike Tate (Tatewise) will probably respond to your query. He is much more knowledgeable on plugins and FH in general and he might have some ideas.

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
Are you saying there are 14000 Source records and each needs a different change?
If so, then each one will need editing by hand to change that part of each title.
No automatic method can handle such multiple changes without manual input of each one.
If lots of records need identical changes then use Edit > Find and Replace or the Search and Replace plugin.

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
Hello Mike,
Thanks for your reply.
No , i have about 14000 deeds, but i only must change about 3000 sources. (i use before a website where i copy the microfilm number from that website to the source of FH, but they stop the website, so i must change all those microfilms numbers in my deeds source from that website to the microfilm number from Family Search)
I started about 26 years ago with collecting the deeds. In the beginning i take a photograph from every deed, now i use the internet.
But, for every (about) 10 sources i only have only to change the number of the microfilm.
Let me explain:
There are about 10 deeds for : Aalst 1820-1830. So i only need to change de microfilm number for those 10 deeds. The sad part is that at the end of every source there is a deed number and a deed year and that change for every source.
What i ask, is it possible (of course):
Is there something where i can change those (f.i.) 10 deeds with a search and replace plugin?
This will decrease the work a lot.
thanks for helping me.
Greetings
Koenraad

If SPG7-929 is unique, and always changes to 1231495, then a simple find and replace will work.
If necessary, you could always add extra characters like - 1863 to both the search text and replacement text, until they are unique. You can also restrict where find and place looks by ticking the appropriate boxes in the Find/Replace dialog box.

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
If I understand correctly, you want to make the same change to 10 Source records.
So use the FH command Edit > Find and Replace as suggested by Gowermick.
No plugin is required.
BTW: I don't understand what a deed is?
Perhaps post the 10 Source record Titles that must be changed, and what actually needs changing.

Re: Changing text in a part of the source title
Hello tatawise
This is a query i make.
As you can see : the first 11 lines refers to a microfilm with number "M975-4PM," the next 6 lines to another microfilm "M975-4P3"...............
I only want to change that number but keep the rest.
so "M975-4PM" i want to change to "1254789"
"M975-4P3" i want to change to "231878".................
With "deed" i mean birth deed , marriage deed, death deed.
So every line refers to a digital picture of that deed.

Select Edit>Find and Replace from the menu
then use the following options Repeat for each source batch number you want to replace
Untick the confirm option if you don't want to confirm every change.
