how can I define a query to extract a burial list

Post by Darryl-W » 19 Jun 2018 23:53

I have many individuals assigned to a variety of burial grounds and I want to extract a list for one or more Cemeteries, thus when I visit the ground I have a list of "my" relatives.

Welcome to the FHUG.

I will assume you use the standard Burial Event to record burial details and put the name of the cemetery burial ground in the Address field of those events.

So create an Individual Query with a Rows tab filter such as:
Add if %INDI.BURI.ADDR% contains ["Cemetery"]

The ["Cemetery"] is a prompt to enter the cemetery burial ground name.
It is created by ticking the Parameter option lower right, and entering Cemetery as the Label.

See how_to:creating_a_query|> Creating a Query and its Rows Tab advice for more details.
You may have more questions if you are unfamiliar with creating Queries.

A word of warning, if like me, you are not always careful how exactly you enter the cemetery name, you will first need to ensure that you have been consistent in naming your burial grounds. Use Tools/Work with data/Addresses to check .

A quick check of mine, and I found the odd cementery, and cemetary, neither of which will be listed if you are looking for cemetery

Thank you for the outstanding and well articulated reply.
It just might be the convincing argument for me to complete my assessment of the software and actually become a "paid up" subscriber. I do appreciate your time and effort in answering my query.

That brought to mind visions of mobsters sending rivals to 'sleep with the fishes' in 'concrete overshoes'...
