bulk change of fact type

Post by rogerdavies42 » 18 May 2018 13:06

I have all my census data recorded in a fact type called 'census'. I would like to reclassify them into a number of different facts called 'census 1841' &c. Try as I might I cannot see a way to do this other than individually, which would be a massive task. Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Roger, I advise strongly against that change for the reasons given in how_to:recording_census_records|> Recording from a Census Record.

All the Census related features of FH rely on use of the standard GEDCOM Census Event, and include:
ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources that only supports the Census Event
Publish > Miscellaneous > Individual Census Report
Lookup Missing Census Facts Plugin
Census Queries in fhugdownloads:queriesindi|> Downloads and Links ~ Query Type: Individual
fhugdownloads:contents:property_box_tabs_census_uk|> Property Box Tabs: Census UK

Also, if you export your GEDCOM to another genealogy product, they will expect the standard GEDCOM Census Event for their Census related features.

I am mystified why you feel the need for that change?

However, if you are determined to change them, then you must first create a Custom Event for each Census Year and then use the Change Any Facts Tag Plugin with its Date filter, and repeat for each Census Year.

If you simply want to be able to find them quickly in Queries you can use

%INDI.CENS[year=1841]%

As illustrated in fhugdownloads:contents:census_addresses_1841_to_1911|> Query:Individual ~ Census Addresses 1841 to 1911 for example.

Thanks both. I hadn't thought of the GEDCOM complication so I will abandon the plan and use Jane's suggestion instead. What a great forum.
