I have a Project on version 6 of FH running on my Windows 7 laptop. It has a folder structure within the Media folder, that contains all my pictures, document scans etc.
My son-in-law has just bought version 6 and installed it on his new Windows 10 laptop. He wants to start to build his family tree onto my existing project.
If I do a full Backup on my computer, onto a USB stick, and then do a Restore on his laptop , will my full project be on his laptop, including all media correctly linked, and the same folder structure that I have, ready for him to start to add his data ?
Any other tips, issues that I should be aware of ?
Thank you very much for any guidance.

Yes, a Full Backup will reproduce an identical Project including all the Media structure.
However, there are a few other points to consider.
Take a look at the how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide.
Most of that advice will apply to your scenario, but in your case you are only migrating one Project.
Take note of Standard Migration Step 1) and just check all your Media File Links are OK.
Will your son-in-law need any of your preference or customisation settings?
e.g.
Do you have any customised Facts (Events/Attributes) defined via Tools > Fact Types?
Do you have any custom Diagrams, Reports, Queries, etc, that he will find useful?
Depending on your answers you may consider using the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin, or just selectively Export a subset of your customised files for your son-in-law to Import.
Please ask for advice if you are not sure.
Also, if you use Ancestral Sources, do any of its settings need to be migrated?
See ancestralsources:ancestral_sources_migration_guide|> Ancestral Sources Migration Guide.

Mike,
Thanks very much for your reply.
I am not an expert user myself, so although I have a comprehensive set of media, I have never customized any "facts" or diagrams, so I think the Full Backup that you mention is going to get him off and running.
I do use Ancestral Sources, so I will also look at that guide and I will certainly take a look at the V5 & V6 Migration Guide first, and check my media links.
Thanks again !
