I have two GEDCOM files, one for my daughter and one for her husband including their son.
How do I join them together to create one tree that contains both groups?

Re: Joining two trees
You simply need to merge the Projects into a single one.
I recommend, copying one of the Projects to a new one using the Copy Project option on the More Tasks button in the Project Window.
Then open the new Project and use the File>Merge Compare option to merge the second tree in. Remember to check any common sources etc are matched correctly.
See glossary:merge_compare_files|> Merge/Compare File for more information.

You can always use the Find Duplicates plugin afterwards too in case you have duplicated people.
