I want to send a portion of family tree diagram to another relative.
I know how to make a person 'root' and produce the diagram but don't know if the only option is to create a gedcom, which the recipient does not understand.
Is there anyway of copying a simple ancestors tree diagram to cd which they could view.
Have found how to produce it as a pdf ready for printing but it's twelve pages. Maybe that's the only option.

Does the recipient have a genealogy program that imports GEDCOM? If so, which one?

Might they know how to upload a GEDCOM online into Ancestry, or FindMyPast, or ZoomPast?

If you uploaded a GEDCOM into Ancestry, or FindMyPast, or ZoomPast would they be able to find it?

All the above are free options possible using the FH Export GEDCOM features.

Otherwise, yes a PDF Diagram on a CD is a good alternative, and you should be able to produce a single page PDF.

If it is only a portion of your tree, then one page should be perfectly possible, unless you have an enormous tree.
PDF viewers can pan and zoom large single page PDF documents quite easily.

How important is it that any attached photos or document images are included?

Not important to include any pics but retain info in boxes.
I have created a pdf but as it's for printing, it's rather odd trying to view it. It flicks from one page to another. I understand it but the recipient I don't believe will.
They have just started an Ancestry.com tree.
Would I need to know their tree to send a gedcom. I don't have an Ancestry account so how do I send it there?

A single-page PDF (as Mike suggested) is much easier to view than a multi-page PDF.

Since you are familiar with producing a PDF then that may be the simplest way to go.

The Diagram > Save Diagram As > PDF File (.pdf) command has the option to Adjust PDF File Page Size so that Diagram fits into One Page. Select that option and it will produce a 1 page PDF page instead of 12 pages.

If you tried to actually print it on an A4 Printer the text would probably be too small to read.
But as I said, a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader (or the many others) have excellent pan & zoom.

Otherwise, you can create an Ancestry account for free, based on your Email address and a new password.
Ancestry may try to coerce you into a subscription account, but just stick with the free one.
Then you upload your tree, or several different trees if you wish, by using FH Export Gedcom feaures.
You then grant your recipient access to your tree by using their account Email address.

If you choose to go this route then we will guide you through the FH Export Gedcom process which is rather more complex than producing a PDF.

I'm fine with Gedcoms, no problem there.
Ancestry won't let me on as I've had a free trial in the past but I'm sure I have other sites to which I can upload and then as you say invite.

You should be able to create a free Ancestry or FindMyPast account even if you have had a free trial before, just use a different Email address if necessary. With a free account you cannot access their records, but you can create trees. I have had one with Ancestry for years and never paid a penny.

Also try ZoomPast that has a novel presentation and is totally free.

They all allow inviting nominated accounts to access your tree.

The process for creating a GEDCOM compatible with those web sites is probably trickier than you realise.
Otherwise, some of your data may not be presented correctly.

They use the FH File > Export > GEDCOM File command to produce the sub-tree, and then Plugins including Export Gedcom File that has dedicated options and advice for each web site.
