generating citations

Hi everyone,

First - I'm using FH 6.2.6 on a Win10 laptop.

I'm new to FH and love a lot about it, but can't seem to figure out how to generate citations or even individual source reports, at least not that look like the ones I can generate in Roots Magic.

I want to use FH because the majority of my research is British/Irish and I like the templates that aren't American-centric, however, I can't quite find how to generate citations, which is very frustrating.

I'm using my main tree, which I imported from RM, which is very well sourced. I also added at least one baptismal source via AS. It doesn't generate properly either. Here's an example of what I mean.

First up, a "citation" from FH:

Source: [S21] London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
Where Within Source: London Metropolitan Archives, Saint Giles, Camberwell, Register of marriages, P73/GIS, Item 048
Multimedia Object: [O1270] <file: Media\31280_197814-00337.jpg>
_TMPLT:
FIELD:
NAME: Page
VALUE: London Metropolitan Archives, Saint Giles, Camberwell, Register of marriages, P73/GIS, Item 048

THEN, this is what I get from Roots Magic (though it's not perfect either):

London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1931, London Metropolitan Archives; London, England; Church of England Parish Registers, 1754-1931; Reference Number: p73/gis/048.

Is there a way in FH to get my citation formatted properly? I'm sure I'missing something obvious.

I couldn't find a similar example in the FH sample file, sorry.

I appreciate any guidance :)

TIA!

Teresa

Welcome to the FHUG.

As a newcomer I advices you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and follow its many links into the other [kb]|[/kb] pages. However, you do seem to have understood a fair amount already, but do check how_to:index#importing_to_family_historian|> Importing to Family Historian as probably some data correction from the Roots Magic import will be needed.

When posing this kind of issue, please explain the FH commands you are using.
Also when complaining that something is not 'generate properly' please be specific what you mean by 'proper'.

I am guessing, but I think your example is from Publish > Record Detail Reports > Individuals.
That is a bullet point list of the internal data structure, where entries such as [I12], [S21], [O1270] are the internal Record Id.
The report style is not intended to be 'pretty printed'.

Try the Individual Summary Report, Family Group Sheet, and Narrative Reports that have Source Citations more like your Roots Magic example. With such a Report open, check the Report > Options > Sources tab customisation features.

>>Sorry, I guess I should have meant they weren't generating in the format I'm used to.

Also, the command I used was in the Sources panel - I clicked on the record and then selected Copy Citation.<<

>>Thanks, I did another Narrative report and finally noticed that the way to go past page 1 was in the top right corner - I hadn't noticed that and kept trying to scroll down to see if it was what I wanted - doh! And it contains the citations formatted "normally".

Thanks so much for the quick reply :)<<
