Undated fact

Post by Jenny143 » 23 Jan 2018 14:32

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I have created a custom fact 'Extra Notes' which is undated and I have set the time frame as post death. I tend to work from the property box and this means I can see any extra info that I add but that it also appears at the end of narrative reports and in diagrams. This works fine unless I add a burial in which case my extra notes appear before the burial. Is there anything I can do about this other than to date the Extra Notes or add the burial details to the death fact / event.

Many thanks

Jenny

Open the All tab for the individual and use the black up/down arrows to move the Extra Notes fact to below the Burial fact. FH should not object to this, as both of those facts have a post-death time frame.

In this case, because both Burial and Extra Notes are Post-Death, you don't even need to switch to the All tab.
Jut use the black Move Up/Down arrows in the toolbar in the middle of the Facts tab.

Interestingly, those facts are NOT upset by any of the auto-ordering methods described in how_to:sorting_children|> Sorting Children, Spouses & Facts into Order.

Thank you very much.

Mike for some reason I can't reorder them with the arrows on the facts page, however I can sort it via the All tab.

Yes, there are some mysterious rules that FH applies to those Move Up/Down arrows.

After a little experimentation, the Facts need to have been sorted using one of the methods in how_to:sorting_children|> Sorting Children, Spouses & Facts into Order, even if it does not actually change their order, and then those Facts tab Move Up/Down arrows become operative in more cases. I have added this advice to that [kb]|[/kb] page.

You may have some GEDCOM reason for using an undated note.
I come to fh from TMG where Notes could have dates and I have a custom Event "Research Notes".. I use it, as you do, after death and burial to report on the person above. I enter a notional date - for many years I used 2000, but since 2000, I usually put the current year.
A late date allows my Research Notes to come last of all, not just after death and burial but after any obituary or probate.
