Using Windows 10.
I cannot install this version. I have never had a problem with installing updates before. The error message says it cannot find a file in the destination directory C:\users\............Family Historian Sample Project\Family Historian Sample Project fh.proj
Could you tell me what file it is looking for and if it is possible to access it?
Family Historian worked until I tried to install the new update but now whenever I try to open any project including the Sample project, it is saying I have to reinstall; error in installation
The program and project files have not been deleted.
I have reset all the permissions in the c:\users file from read only but that has made no difference.
Do I have to reinstall or is there another way? Will a reinstall overwrite all my customisations?
Barbara

Re: Cannot install v6.2.6
Sorry about those problems Barbara.
Are you using the BitDefender anti-virus software, as that has been causing installation problems for other users.
See Family Historian won't load (15590) that has advice about excluding the FH installation folder.
Otherwise, try the advice in how_to:family_historian_installation_problems|> Family Historian Installation Problems about using Run as administrator, and if necessary temporarily disable your anti-virus software, or use Windows Safe Mode.
Reinstalling FH from scratch should not overwrite your customisations, but you would be wise to take backups if you have not already done so. If not sure what to backup, then please ask. However, reinstallation from scratch should not be necessary as I suspect something else is interfering with the installation process.
C:\users\.......\Family Historian Projects\Family Historian Sample Project\Family Historian Sample Project.fh_proj is the Project File of the default Family Historian Sample Project which is a key component of every FH Project folder structure.
The Family Historian Sample Project is created by the FH installation if it does not already exist.
At what stage in the installation process does it complain about accessing that file?

Re: Cannot install v6.2.6
Thank you so much, Mike. I don't use BitDefender.
I entered safe mode (not done that before) and ran the download as administrator. Piece of cake. I have since reentered normal mode and it is still working. What a relief.
Sorry, forgot to mention that it is at the end of the installation that the error message appears. It manages a lot of files then gives up and rolls back.
Thanks again
Barbara
