Recording DNA links

My apologies if this question has been asked a different way!

I am interested how other FH users handle their research following a DNA test. Whichever provider you use you will typically spend some time exploring matches to other researchers, finding common ancestors on their trees held elsewhere. How do you "flag" those common ancestors.

Custom fact? Or some other idea?

Thanks,

Graham

The following threads may give you some ideas.
Recording dna matches (15465)
X-DNA Charts- How to make one? (15246)
X DNA Diagram (14700)
Charting Companion add-on. (14839)

If you enter DNA into the Search above then there are several more.

I have created a simple custom attribute and a custom query.

I note that the fact has a field to hold a website {%FACT._WEB[1]%} but how do I make this field visible to enter data in the property box?

I would recommend using the Extended Set custom fact for DNA Markers as mentioned in Recording dna matches (15465) rather than your own custom fact. Then you are more likely to be using the same DNA fact as other users.

One way to access the website field is via the All tab, where a right-click on the DNA fact (or any other fact) offers Add Web Site.

Another technique is to customise either the Main tab, or create a custom DNA tab, and define all the fields you want to utilise including the website.

My guess is that the website is the same for all your DNA testing, and in that case the best solution is a Source record to hold the details and a linked Repository can show the Website.
