I have a GEDCOM file with 5,000 records.

Each time you add a new record, the Records number increases by one.

So I want to go back to record No. 3000 and split the GEDCOM into two files.

The first file will contain records 1 thru 3000
and the second GEDCOM file will contain records 3001 thru 5000.

I see their is "tree splitting" mentioned in the instructions, but that does not apply here.

One way to do this is to save the original GEDCOM (5,000 records) and then delete the first 3,000 records
and then save the remaining 2000 records as a separate GEDCOM file. (Not sure if this is possible with FH.)

Is there a FH plug-in that will allow me to split the records?

This is a very unusual requirement, and raises the question: why do you want to do this? Many FH users have gedcom files containing tens of thousands of individual records, and FH can handle this without difficulty.

You need to be aware that if you simply chop the file up in the way you are suggesting you are very likely to find that you are splitting up family groups, as some family members will be in the 1 - 3000 group and others in the 3000+ group. This will result in a number of incomplete Family records and make it impossible to view some of the data meaningfully. And what do you want to do about Source records? Media records?

If you can explain why you want to do this (what problem are you trying to solve?) we might be able to suggest alternative approaches .

To reiterate what Lorna has said, you are only seem to be considering Individual records and ignoring their associations with the other nine types of record (Families, Notes, Sources, Repositories, Submitters, Submissions, Media, Places & Header).
Also, many users have much larger GEDCOM files than yours, and in computing terms 5,000 is a tiny number.

Arbitrarily splitting a GEDCOM file as you suggest will almost certainly render both resulting files totally unusable.

So, what are you hoping to achieve and why?

I don't particularly like the "me too" type of response but I have to agree with Lorna and MIke and say that whatever problem you think you have now will pale into insignificance if you do wholesale deletion of individual files based purely on record number.

You really need to hand out some details of what you are trying to achieve and why and I assure you that you will get some great advice.
