Sorry if this sounds silly but I happily enter census info via AS and add the images. Just curious, when I click on the census in the facts list the information comes that X appeared in the 1871 census. I then click on the citation but there is no reference there. When I go to the source records all the information is there. Should I also be entering the ref in the citation as well as it being done by AS? Sorry if this is basic.

The census ref (RG9; Piece: 879; Folio: 72; Page: 4........etc) is displayed in the source record under Publication Information. It doesn't get put into the Citation.

For many places in FH, "what goes where" is much a matter of personal preference and being consistent. For myself I try to avoid duplicating information in different places, if you ever need to change that information you have to remember where you have put it.

The Where within Source field comes into its own when using Method 2 'lumpers' sources.
With that scheme the Source record is simply 1871 UK Census with no Text From Source transcript, Media images, nor any details. So the only place to record those details is in the Citation itself. Thus the Where within Source field holds the Ref, the Text From Source the transcript, and the Media image is linked to the Citation too. BUT that must be replicated in every Citation for each person in the same household.

You are using the Method 1 'splitters' sources that are better suited to Census records, where all details are in one place in the Source record, and the Citation fields are largely redundant.
