Double click selection query

Post by bonalymac » 28 Oct 2017 14:05

I've noticed an interesting issue with selecting a word. Normally, double clicking on a word in a field selects the entire word.

However, I was editing a Place just now and I noticed that if I tried to select the word Inverness, in the phrase

Daviot, Inverness

by double clicking, I was rewarded with just the first 8 letters. The last "s" would not select however many times I tried it.

I therefore tested a few different scenarios, and discovered if I used the phrase

Daviot, Inverness, Scotland

Then double clicking on Inverness, did select the whole word, but now, double clicking on Scotland left me with the "d" omitted.

I then tried various different word lengths

including this example where I filled it with gibberish. In every case, the last character remained unselected.

Finally, I worked out that if a comma is placed after the word, then double clicking correctly selects the whole word (minus the comma as it should). As soon as the comma is removed however, then the software reverts to selecting the word minus the last character.

I haven't tried this extensively in other parts of the software, but it doesn't happen everywhere, but it obviously is an issue here.

Well spotted, and it is quite widespread.
It occurs in any text edit box opened by clicking the [...] button to the right of its primary field.
That includes Place, Address, Note everywhere, Source Title, Author, Publication Information, Text From Source in Source & Citation, etc.

When the last alphanumeric word in the text box terminates the text, then double-click omits selecting its last character.
If the alphanumeric word is immediately followed by any other character such as a symbol, space, tab, or newline, then it all gets selected OK.

Please report that bug to Calico Pie as advised in how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting.

If you double-click just to the right of the last alphanumeric word in the text box then it will select the whole word.

Calico Pie have responded this morning (very efficient)!
We have confirmed that it is a bug. We will investigate and fix it
The help from this forum, and from Calico Pie confirms I made the right choice recently in choosing this software .
