Finding records with PLACES

Post by dhj » 23 Oct 2017 18:20

I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this but I'm going round in circles trying to find it! In the list of PLACE records one of the fields says 'Links'. I am assuming that '0' in this field means the PLACE is not used but if there is a number there then how do I find the record(s) with that PLACE associated with them. i.e. against the PLACE 'Umberleigh, Devon' I have '2' links. How do I find those 2 records?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Two options:

1. In the View menu select Record Links... and then open up each record in turn to find where the relevant place is.

2. Use the Where Used Record Links plugin (it works like a query) for a list showing the exact fields.

Another way to see the links is via the Map screen. Open the map, then click on the place to put an icon onto the map, then when you click the icon, a pop-up box appears which lists who and where the place is used. e.g. John Smith Birth, or Fred Jones Christening.

Yes, that is a handy trick when dealing Place names, and a double-click on any item in the list will open the associated Property Box with the fact highlighted.

Whereas the Where Used Record Links Plugin works for finding links between a selection of multiple records (rather than one at a time), and for of any record type, and with similar double-click access to the Property Box.
