docking property box problem

Post by raysmithy » 26 Sep 2017 09:54

Hi
I'm having what may be a very simple problem - but it's driving me nuts!! I can't seem to dock the property box to the focus box. When I try all I get is a full screen property box with data missing off to the left of the screen, it will not resize so I am left with the only option of floating boxes which is a bit of a pain. I'm using ver 6.2.5 with windows 10. The same thing happens with the sample project.
any suggestions would be welcome
Ray

Hi Ray.
I suspect you have adjusted the sizes of the Focus/Records Window pane &/or the Property Box itself such that when docked the Property Box fills the window, and that the main FH window is not Maximised.

In the main FH window, use the Maximise box button top right, next to the X close button.
Then when the Property Box is docked the vertical dots button to resize pane will appear near the left margin.
Hover the cursor on those dots and it will change to vertical parallel lines with two arrows that can be dragged right to increase the Focus/Records Window pane.

Thanks Mike
It still doesn't work! If I maximise the main FH window and then try and dock the property box, the property box fills the whole screen with about 2cm of data missing at the left hand side. I can't resize this window

Mike
Thanks for your help but I have solved it! I uninstalled the program and re-installed a new copy - it works - fantastic!!

That is very odd Ray.
Have you any idea how it got into that state to start with?
Had you customised anything in FH to do with the Focus Window, or Property Box, etc?
Had you reconfigured anything in Windows such as resolution or font size, or changed your monitor screen?

How were you trying to "Dock" the property box Ray?
Were you dragging it to the right hand side of the screen and letting it go (A windows operation), or were you using the "Dock / Float" feature from within FH.
If the first method was used, then that could explain your symptoms.
If the 2nd (Correct) method was used, then possibly resizing the floating PB to be narrower could mke a difference.

John - I used the 2nd method

Mike - I think it may have been due to windows 10 updating, I haven't changed anything else.

A Windows 10 Update is certainly a candidate, because those window size & position settings are held in the Windows Registry which does sometimes get upset by Win 10.

Effectively, re-installing FH has reset some of the Windows Registry settings incuding the window settings.

A possible workaround is to use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin Backup option before a Windows 10 Update and if necessary use its Restore option afterwards.
