I understand the frustration, but also wonder how feasible it is to include everybody's preferences out of the box.
Personally, I loathe narrative reports -- they're stilted and repetitive; I'd rather write my own notes in good English, for inclusion with an outline/summary report (rather than go to the effort of customising sentences). So I'd be very happy to see no narrative reports out of the box at all.
But others only want narrative reports and find outline reports confusing, which is why I suspect it's impossible to please all the people all the time, except with extensive customisation options which then run up against the problem "if you don't already know what's possible and how to do it, you won't know what's possible or how to do it."
You could add connecting lines on that chart which might address your point about connecting individuals to their relatives. However, I was trying to address Craig's need for a report like the one shown at viewtopic.php?f=32&t=15245#p80437 which seems also (to me) to lack the items you've suggested.
