I am beginning the journey of creating a web site of our information. From what I have read it looks like it is not possible to make a Fact private. I know encasing text inside double quotes makes that text private, but the Fact still appears, see this example for a To Do Fact
Ideally I would like to suppress that Fact type completely so the heading does not appear, is this possible? I cannot manually edit the html files as I have nearly 20,000 family and individual html files. Is there another way within FH of recording things like To Do's such that they don't appear?

Yes David, it seems you are using the Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) as the Primary Page Type.

You can either use the Options button in Wizard Step 3 - Choose Report Template or via the Publish > Miscellaneous Reports command use the Report Options. On the Contents tab the Marriage/Family Member Events/Attributes settings on the right give complete control over which facts are included/excluded.

It is up to you whether you simply adjust the default Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) or Save Report As > Custom Report Type and use that in Wizard Step 3 - Choose Report Template.

Thank you, creating an exclude list in Step 3 of the Wizard did the trick. Like all these things, simple once you know how.

David, if you are worried about privacy, 'sensitivity' etc, to be on the safe side you could always copy your project to a temporary project (very easy with FH), then do 'blanket' deletions of all facts of a type, even selective facts, all born after say 1930 etc, a bit like you might for a Gedcom export.

The problem I find with creating 'sensitive' output is remembering all the 'hoops' for the different reports/exports, with the above method, whatever you do there should be much less chance of problems.

Thank you. I wasn't so much concerned about security as I think I have that very well covered by use of the Living Flag which I am currently just checking off. It was more to exclude Facts such as To Do which are my personal notes and the Note Facts where some observations are recorded which are not for public consumption. The Fact exclusion option on the web site creation does this very nicely and the setting is remembered until you change it.

Don't forget you can put "private notes" in [[ ]] and then all the reports can easily exclude them, very useful for those family secrets.

Thank you, I have already made good use of [[ ]] to keep a few things hidden.

Whenever I come across a living fact I go onto FreeBMD and find the details of the person (if it is in UK) so long as there is just one of that persons name I add the reference to my tree.
Years ago I saw a photo on someone's tree and asked him what his relationship to the person was. He wouldn't tell me but said I am free to download the photo. The joke here is that it was my photo of my dad! I again asked him his connection. He wouldn't tell me. So I went to FreeBMD and told him the year he was born (1948) and who he married and the names of his children and the years they were born. I never heard from him again.
One can always use living fact but it does not stop anyone one from finding details

Indeed. But use of the Living Flag to suppress publishing anything other than names and relationships means I am respecting people's sensitivities. If others want to seek out details from public domain information, as we all do, that is their privilege.
