I use Gedstar to read my Tree on my Android phone (until FH provides an Android version!) and now, when I try to convert the GEDCOM file for use, I get the message "Line#1 in GEDCOM file does not have a level number. File TCGedParse.cpp, line 209" Can you help with this, please, or suggest an alternative. Thanks, Jeremy Hills

I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum because the User Group Forum says it is for "Suggestions and requests for help on using this site. For help with Family Historian please post in the General Usage Forum".

I suspect you have upgraded to FH V6 that uses UTF16 Unicode encoding for its Gedcom file, and that is not supported by many products.

You have several options:
  • Use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File and ensure the Format is UTF-8 or ANSI.
  • Use Tools > Preferences > File Load/Save and tick Save in UTF-8 file format
  • Use the plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file|> Export Gedcom File Plugin that has a specific mode for fhugdownloads:contents:utility_gedstar_pro|> Utility ~ GedStar Pro and offers the best data and media migration features
