How do I attach a photo to a specific fact?
I am starting to get to grips with attaching media.
I have photos of lots of parish register entries. I have uploaded my first baptism, which is attached to the correct person. However, I would like to link the photo to the baptism event rather than having it "loose".
Please could someone explain how to go about this?

Re: How do I attach a photo to a specific fact?
What I do is to create the fact, eg baptism, create a source for that fact, then add that image of the entry to that source. If you have a transcription of that source you can add that in the "text from source" box. Often the transcription contains information that's not on the image.
However if the image is, say, of a church where the event took place then I add that image (photo) to the place record, so that in then appears where ever that place is used.

David, thanks for your reply.
How do I get the photo into the source box for the baptism, please?

It sounds like you may not be using Source Citations at all, which makes it difficult to attach the photo to the Source record.
In the recent posting New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6 (14601), Ancestral Sources (AS) was mentioned, which is designed to simplify adding new Birth, Baptism, Marriage, Death, Burial and Census records to FH with images attached to Source records.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept of citing Source records, then please study Sources Methods 1 & 2 that is one of the key topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.
Briefly, a Baptism record should be captured with its transcript and image in a Source record in FH.
Typically, that Baptism record not only gives details of the baptism, but also the birth, and the parents.
So, a Baptism Event and a Birth Event for the Individual should both cite the Source record.
Likewise, the Name of both parent Individual records should also cite the same Source record.
That could be entered directly into FH, but AS simplifies the whole process to give the same result.
If I have underestimated your knowledge, then I apologise.
If you do have a Baptism cited Source record, then in the Sources For yellow pane, select that Source and click the blue arrow below right. That opens the Source record Property Box and the image can be added to the Media tab in the same way you add photos to the Media tab of Individual records.

Thanks, Mike. I shall have to get to grips with Ancestral Sources. I think I shall have to download it as I don't have it any more.

Do you need any more detailed advice?
Or do you need to study what I have suggested before asking again?

Re: How do I attach a photo to a specific fact?
I have attached sources to most of my records, but I haven't been using Ancestral Sources. I was always rather confused as to why it was necessary to have Ancestral Sources as I thought Family Historian coped with sources without its use.
Re: How do I attach a photo to a specific fact?
Which version should I install? V 5.2.0 64 bit or 32 bit?

It does not matter too much which version you install.
If you know you have a 64-bit PC then use the 64-bit version.
Otherwise, use the 32-bit version - FH is a 32-bit program and works perfectly well on both 64-bit and 32-bit PC.
Effectively, that is what is says in ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources and the tutorials there are worthwhile.
AS is one of the key topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers. Have you studied that?
It is NOT necessary to use AS, but it is very convenient, as it avoids much of the tedious repetition in using FH.
Take a Census record, with say four Individuals in the household.
To capture that in FH you must first compose the Source record, and the transcript, and attach the image.
Then you must add almost identical Census Events to the four Individual records each citing the Source.
There may also be Birth Events and Occupation Attributes to add too, and maybe others, each with the same citation.
That involves entering many of the transcript details such as the date, occupation, and place several times.
You also need to take care in naming the Source record and Media record consistent with your chosen strategy.
It all gets tediously repetitive and error prone.
Whereas, with AS you essentially capture the transcript in a grid similar to the Census form itself, and attach the image.
Then AS semi-automatically does the rest for you, and ensures consistent record naming to your chosen strategy.
The same general methodology applies to the other BMD records supported by AS.
Since you already have a Source record for the Baptism then use the technique I described earlier to add the image.
AS is not useful in making that kind of later adjustment, and is intended primarily for the initial capture of new records.

Thanks, Mike. I shall have to look at this tomorrow. My head is spinning - it seems very complicated!
