Flag names

Post by rogerdavies42 » 07 Apr 2017 12:48

Is it possible to change the name of a custom flag? The names FH has given mine, imported from TMG, are very clunky but I can find no advice anywhere on how to change them. I can see it would be possible to make a new flag, copy all the ticked individuals to it, then delete the old one, but perhaps there is an easier way?

It is possible to Manually edit the flag file, but I would make a copy of your original first.
It is located in C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Flags and is called Flags.fha
Right click and choose open with.... notepad, ensuring that always open with ... is unticked.

Whta you will see is something along the lines of:

Code: Select all

[.index]
Count=36

[Flag1]
Name=Living
Tag=__LIVING

[Flag2]
Name=Private
Tag=__PRIVATE

[Flag3]
Name=Not in 1910
Tag=__NOT_IN_1910
[Flag4]
Name=Not In 1911
Tag=__NOT_IN_1911
[Flag5]
Name=Not In 1901
Tag=__NOT_IN_1901
[Flag6]
Name=M Cert Needed
Tag=__M_CERT_NEEDED
[Flag7]
Name=Not in 1900
Tag=__NOT_IN_1900
[Flag8]
Name=Not in 1920
Tag=__NOT_IN_1920

[Flag20]
Name=Twin Confirmed
Tag=__TWIN_CONFIRME
Which can be edited and saved.
There is a limit on the Tag name of 15 unique Characters, but the flag name can be any length

The 'correct & safe' way to do it is via the Tools > Named Lists and Flags commands.
Use Task 4. to create a list, then Task 1. to set the new Flag, and Task 3. to remove old Flag, and Task 6. to empty list.
