New website is corrupt

Post by Bill Deverell » 11 Mar 2017 12:16

I last uploaded my website 30 Mar 2016.
Used the create wizard today to build a new version and I have hit a problem.
All the files are corrupt (ie contain gibberish) except for Index, contact and Nameindex

Any thoughts?

Bill

If you preview one of the pages in the Publish menu does it look correct?

Not sure what you mean there.

I attach a txt version of the first family (had to rename it as I could'nt attach an html file)
This shows the gibberish
This file fam4.html is correctly linked to from index.html

I did notice during the wizard that it appeared to be doing the final creation step twice.

I do not have access to a PC just now, but that file looks like it may be misusing Unicode.
Exactly which FH version are you using 6.2.? (Use Help > About Family Historian)

What Jane is suggesting is to use the Publish > Miscellaneous > Family Group Sheet report option that matches the wizard Primary Report setting, and see what gets generated if Save Report As > HTML is used.

Jane

Thought I'd sent another reply.
I've fixed it.
Since last March I'd added a lot of media files especialy to Facts.
These weren't just jpgs but included tif, pdf, doc and xls
I checked the wizard and found I hadn't cleared the boxes relating to these items.
Now built the website OK but puzzled why the media files upset it.

It might be worth updating to current V6.2.4 as bug fixes are mentioned, but no details, so whether wizard fixes are included no one knows!

Exactly what wizard options are you talking about?

Non-image Media should never appear in Reports, but TIF files can cause problems sometimes.
Check stand-alone report as I suggested before.

Mike and Jane
I've repeated my teset with 6.2.4 and it creates the website OK even with the the picture settings back on the defaults.
So problem solved.
